Welcome to the home page The SSTRAI website.

SSTRAI is the Recognised National Governing Body for Recreational Salmon Sea Trout Anglers in Ireland. Our organisation is primarily concerned with the preservation of wild Salmon and Sea trout stocks to ensure the sport of recreational angling is developed in Ireland. We have all experienced depressed or declining salmon and sea trout stocks for many years. Empirical evidence now suggests that both the freshwater and marine ecosystems are under pressure from many factors putting these migratory fish at very high risk.

We aim to ensure that priority is given to restore spawning habitat-removal of in-stream structures that prevent wild Salmon and Sea trout accessing their natal spawning grounds while observing best international practice on conservation. We have prioritised support for club waters that have not achieved their spawning target limits. We shall endeavour to provide assistance with conservation measures in partnership with the Angling Council of Ireland and the European Anglers Alliance.

We aim to develop the sport of recreational angling in Ireland by providing coaching to enhance the skills and art of angling and we welcome full club participation by all citizens and visiting anglers.

SSTRAI have in place guidelines for good conduct and ethics in sport and employ the Code of Ethics for Children in Sports issued by the Irish Sports Council.
